The Story Behind the Shell

Growing up on Long Island, NY, Jennifer’s childhood was filled with great shellfish—clams were a staple in her family. Her mother ate them at least twice a month, and her grandfather from Brooklyn loved stuffed clams. But oysters? She knew nothing about them.

In college, at the illustrious NCCU, she discovered her passion for cooking after an epic Food Network binge. She would save recipes and recreate her favorites at home.

Her passion started to take off when she decided to sell homemade empanadas to fund her oldest daughter’s travel volleyball season. The side hustle turned into a full-on success, but balancing motherhood and running a food venture became overwhelming.

During the pandemic, Jennifer discovered her love for oysters. As she dove into their history and the many ways they can be enjoyed, she knew she had to share this newfound passion with her community.

Nurse by trade, but also a business owner in the oyster industry, Jennifer's goal is to educate, excite, and inspire others to appreciate oysters as much as she does!

Today, HalfShells brings fresh oysters, friendly service, and a reason to gather around the bar.
